| Just finished the book! It was soo sad but really good at the same time, i preferred the musical to the book, the songs just make it for me! I need to go and but Son of a Witch now! Is it like Wicked? Better, Worse? Any reviews would be great | |

| I haven't read Son of a Witch yet, but I am planning to :P
I agree that the songs really make it. To me, the book just isn't the same as the musical.

| yep there is a link it follows what happens to Liir after Elphies melting and how he goes to try and find Nor etc. It starts of a little bit strangely in some ways as it starts and then goes back over the events then when it catches itself back up it continues on to the end and you kind of get an idea of iff Liir is actually Elphies son or not. I wont say which it is coz that would be a plot spolier as he spends a lot of time thinking about if he is and people tell him what they think etc.
Its well worth the read and the money to read it in my oppinion.

| Does Anthony read his own book, by any chance? (I might download it even though I've got it, and I've read it, if he's reading it!)
I think I've said before, but I'll say again, I wasn't impressed with Wicked (the book), and couldn't get anywhere in Son of a Witch. And I'll read almost anything. But... that's just me. Some of Wicked I quite enjoyed -- the parts at Shiz, especially -- but most of it was just uneven and unsatisfying. As for Son of a Witch... I thought Liir was a brat in Wicked, so why would I want to read a whole book about him? :Pt: But one of my oldest friends -- and whose opinions in books I value highly -- thought Wicked and Son of a Witch were both great. It's really just down to your own personal preference -- they're definitely love-'em-or-hate-'em kinds of books... or rather, Gregory Maguire is that kind of writer.

| I didn't think he was ever really given enough personality to feel sorry for... he was sort of a nonentity for me And I was already so frustrated at that point by everything that had been left out, it was hard to try to get to like him. Maybe it was the fact that he just showed up, half-grown, at a part when I was about to get really upset at Mr Maguire for leaving out another huge chunk of Elphaba's life, that sort of meant I couldn't warm up to him... I was hoping Son of a Witch would fill in enough about Liir, and enough about his own thoughts, that I might find a bit more sympathy for him, but really... I still just found him annoying. He just wasn't a sympathetic character for me.
As always, personal preference, but of course.

| yeah. I kind of like that in a way as it left it up to you to make your own mind about Liir. Who came in to his own in Son of a Wictch. I love the ending of that book. | |
